Taking Safety on the Road

Seeing farm equipment up close allowed students at Tri-Valley and Heyworth High Schools to El Paso-Gridley to gain a better perspective on how to share the road safely on Sept. 9 and 15 respectively.

McLean County Farm Bureau members Andrew Williams and Rush Olson brought a tractor and grain cart to each of the High Schools and helped facilitate the program.

Students had the chance to climb in the tractor cab to see the view from the driver’s seat and measure the width of the grain cart to better understand the size and scale of farm equipment.

Volunteers shared safety tips and precautions for meeting, passing and following farm equipment.

McLean County Farm Bureau sponsored the events to help raise awareness about rural road safety for young drivers. Tri-Valley and Heyworth high school ag teachers helped coordinate the events.
